Making The Most Of Your Mailing Dollars

Due to the ever increasing cost of postage, your company should consider several cost reduction services including: mailing list updates, merge/purge, carrier routing, barcoding and many more.

Let’s go in to detail about a few of those services that will minimize the impact of rising postage rates.

Mail to people at their correct addresses

Any mailing list our customers provide us, or that we provide for our customers, is ran against the National Change of Address (NCOA). This step minimizes postage costs and “address correction” mail by identifying moves before a mailing goes out. It is also very important for you to make the changes within your mailing list files for future mailings.

Remove duplicates from your mailing list

You might be surprised at the number of duplicate records in your mailing list. Here at Bluegrass, we can run your file through our specially designed merge/purge software to remove any duplicates, saving printing, processing and postage costs on those pieces. This process can be done with lists made up of residential addresses or business addresses.

Make your lists and mail pieces automation compatible

Have lists run through programs that add ZIP+4, then have the postal barcode output with the address. Make sure all mail conforms to the postal services requirements for automated mail. This allows for you to take advantage of the cheaper automation-based postage rates.

Mail letter size pieces

Make sure your direct mail pieces are at or under the maximum size for letter rate, which is 6.125 inches by 11.5 inches. Also, consider the weight of papers when having pieces printed. By keeping First-Class pieces under 1 ounce, and Bulk Mail pieces under 3.3 ounces, you can minimize postage costs.
