Postcards – seen and heard

A customer sees your message when they open their mailbox. They see it when they set it down. Other household members see it as it sits on the counter or kitchen table.

Why consider postcard marketing? For one, postcards get viewed far more often than other types of marketing communication. They have a presence that other forms of communication can’t touch.

  1. They get delivered right to a person’s home.
  2. They don’t need to be opened so their message is displayed instantly.
  3. By using the modern technique of VDP, you can deliver specific messages to specific customers.

Compare this to email. While email can be an effective marketing tool, it has several hurdles to overcome. The biggest hurdle? Email has to be opened! What’s more, you only have a single black and white text subject line in email to grab a person’s attention.

Contrast that with postcard marketing pieces that have colorful graphics and large headlines conveying your message. Always open. Always communicating. A customer sees your message when they open their mailbox. They see it when they set it down. Other household members see it as it sits on the counter or kitchen table. Your message and graphics are always working to communicate to your potential customers.  A well thought-out postcard with a sharp headline, photos or graphics will prompt a customer to look more closely.

Replace email with postcards? Absolutely not! Each has its place in your marketing plans. Consider the advantages of both. A complementary program that builds on the strengths of both is a powerful, effective way to reach customers. Consider both and work with a marketing team that can deliver both in just the right amounts to increase your marketing effectiveness and maximize your ROI.
