Some of these companies have never outsourced this part of their business. They have a lot of questions, and one of the first and foremost is this: “Will you now handle the credit card payments we receive?”
The short answer
No. We never handle any of the payments our clients receive by credit card or other bill paying options.
The rest of the story
Here is the longer explanation, which helps them understand how those credit card payments are handled:
When a client’s billing account is set up in our computerized system, we ask for two pieces of information: the user name and the password for the client’s merchant account. The merchant, in this case, is the company that handles their credit card payments. If a company has never accepted credit card payments, we can refer them to several of these merchants so that they can accept payments in this way.
When we add that merchant account user name and password to our system, it links that merchant to our system. By doing so, our system becomes a doorway or a portal for payments. When a client’s customer makes a payment by credit card, it flows right through our system and into the hands of the merchant that handles their credit card payments. We have no contact, physically or virtually, with the client’s payments.
Our clients are happy to know that they can keep their current merchant account and that their payments do not have to pass through more hands in the process.
